Implicit
Communicating without translation
Implicit is an animate object, physically relaying the constant stream of oceanic information transmitted by oceanic data buoys around the world. It fosters a connection to another place, outside of the immediate environment.
Ocean waves recorded by data buoys are typically interpreted as numbers or graphs which strips the information of its evocative meaning. Implicit uses motion control to recreate the original waves—this maintains the original state of the information without displaying it in an ambiguous other form.
Implicit is my bachelor of design thesis project. You can read the process book here: Implicit: Communicating Waves.
